Kong Hee Fatt Choy !!

Rooster

To all my white friends, Chinese New Year was on the 9th of Feb and it marks a very special day for me, as the Western New Year does for you. To me it is a day of ancient traditions and rituals passed down through generations. Every year a wise woman (my Mother) tells me about the importance of not washing my hair or sweeping the floors on this day, as it brings about bad fortune. My favorite tradition is the handing out of red packets which holds money in it, but for me it is not about the money but for what it symbolizes, wealth and good fortune. Chinese New Year also referred to as the Spring Festival is a celebration I will carry on for years to come.
